Best Fonts for Posters

Build a poster that reads from across the room with confident, high impact type.

A poster has to communicate from a distance and in a glance. Type does most of the heavy lifting, so bold choices and a clear hierarchy are everything.

Make it read from afar

  • Lead with a large, bold display font for the main message.
  • Create a strong hierarchy so the eye knows what to read first.
  • Use a clean font for the supporting details such as date and location.

Compose with contrast

Posters thrive on contrast in size, weight and spacing. Let the headline dominate, keep secondary information smaller and quieter, and leave generous space so the design does not feel crowded. One expressive display font is usually plenty.

License terms vary from one font to another. Always review the license included with a specific font before using it, especially for commercial work.
